Infatuation 2

A long long time ago I wrote a post entitled Infatuation. In it I wrote about my love for David Soul when he played Hutch in Starsky and Hutch. Laugh if you will.

Why are we attracted to certain people? Sometimes the answer is easy. They're HOT! However this can be subjective at times. For example there might be one or two women or men in the world who don't find George Clooney attractive. Heh Heh.

I'm not sure why I liked David Soul; Everyone else liked Paul Michael Glazier.

I've dated a lot of men and there have been many reasons to why I was attracted to one or another. Sometimes, like with Hus, I initially thought he was HOT and he is. But what kept me interested was his personality.

This leads me to my infatuation 2 post. Why do I like Mark Wahlberg? Hmmm? I do find him aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but there has to be more. Is it the badboy, rapper, convicted of attempted murder, urinating in public thing? Could it be that he reminds me of all the Irish cuties (even though he is just part Irish) I dated when I lived in Massachusetts? Perhaps.

Maybe because I liked this song...

It certainly wasn't because he was in this movie. He was the only thing I liked about the movie and only because his hair was sooo ridiculous.
(I Heart Huckabees)

Maybe because, psychotic-ness aside, I really liked him in this movie...

(Fear)

And what's not to like about this.....

I wrote this post in part because I recently watched the movie The Happening which starred Mark Wahlberg. Unfortunately it was one of the worst movies EVER! I had to force myself to finish watching it. I had to remind myself why I liked Marky Mark in the first place. Now I remember.
Who are you infatuated with?

Seven Why's

I was tagged recently by Mercat to do the Seven Random Things Meme. I've changed it this time to Seven Why's. Why? Just because.

1) Why is my favorite flashback to the '80's radio station playing only Christmas music, and not '80's Christmas music, now until Christmas?

2) Why do I hate crumbs but tolerate dust?

3) Why do I love Edward Cullen, I mean in a non-pedophile-if I was 23 years younger-type of love?

4) Why do I all of the sudden like the Rolling Stones and find myself humming Ruby Tuesday sometimes?

5) Why did I have a dream that someone cut the top of my head off and I spent the remainder of the dream trying to keep my head together?

6) Why does dog breath make me gag but cat breath smells good to me?

7) Why no more Buffy?!!!

Nine Going on Fifteen

What happened to my sweet little baby girl? The one who used to like to wear pretty dresses and let me do her hair? The one who used to come running to me when I would pick her up from pre-school? The one who would talk for hours non-stop? So much so that I would have to ask her, beg her for some quiet time. She's still there, I know she is, living somewhere perhaps not so deep inside my sweet big girl or trapped in the pages of my scrapbooks. She's the one who won't wear dresses or let me do her hair and now who now gives me attitude instead of kisses when she comes home from school. The one who keeps secrets from me because she shares them with her girlfriend instead. Sometimes, especially right before falling asleep at night, that little girl returns. Maybe it's because she's tired she lets her guard down, or maybe because at this time I can really focus and listen to her and her alone, that at night sometimes she comes back to me.

She is a big girl now, all of 9 years old, going on 15. She used to have pictures of kitty's on her wall and hearts and frilly little girl things. She couldn't go to sleep without her ballerina music box playing. Now she begs to stay up later so she can watch another teeny bopper show and her walls are covered with posters of her favorite idols. She has a best girlfriend who she talks to on the phone about school and TV shows and whatever 9 year old girls talk about everyday. She even went to her first real teeny bopper concert a few weeks ago.

E tries to be a good girl and I try to be a good mom, but it's not easy. We can become easily frustrated with each other and while I am supposed to be the adult, sometimes she can bring me down to her level without much effort. I try to empathize by remembering how hard it can be for a kid, all the pressure of schoolwork, relationships and especially new feelings, body changes, bullies and extra curricular activities can make them tired and decrease their ability to control themselves. Same goes for mama's, especially the tired part. I yell a lot more when I am tired, it only makes sense.

The pictures above were taken of E's bedroom when it was in the loft. We recently had to move her to a room closer to our bedroom because she "can't sleep soo far away" from us. I guess she is not such a big girl after all.
Just for fun, and because I like flashbacks, here are some of mama's teen idols.

Infatuation

Could I have really been in love with David Soul ? At the time I thought so. I was a little older than E is now. Maybe 11-12? I remember looking forward to watching Starsky and Hutch every week. Most of my friends liked Paul Michael Glaser, but I always seem to root for the underdog. I even had David's 45 'Don't give up on us baby' with 'Black Bean Soup' on the b side. I listened to it over and over and over again.

When Starsky and Hutch moved from a weekend night to a weeknight and my parents told me I could no longer watch the show, I threw a really huge temper tantrum. Of course I got my way and they let me stay up!

When I mentioned my once love for David Soul to my husband, he informed me that around the time the show was on or soon after, David was accused of wife beating. Is this true? I was devastated.

I loved many actors when I was young, but that's for another post. And now when E has a tantrum about staying up late to watch her idols on TV, I will be able to empathize. Yeah, right. "GET YOUR ASS IN BED BITCH!" just kiddin.
