The hus, kids and I were stuck in a rut. Cold dark days and long dark nights were getting to us. Evenings spent just staring or yelling at one another. Kids fighting, Hus falling asleep on the couch, Mama reading and silently wishing everyone would just go to bed already, so she could have control of the remote. Maybe it was cabin fever. In the summer there is much fun to be had, even in the evening. Swimming, walking, playing or just sitting on the porch sipping a beer watching supper go up in flames on the grill.
For Christmas we gave E an MP3 player. We weren't sure if it would work with our slow dial-up, and it is slow, but it does. It takes around 1.5 hours for 2 songs! We had so much fun downloading E songs that I went out and bought another player for the adults to use. Now we are actually having fun in the evening, spending hours listening, dancing and reminiscing to music. It has really perked up our family time. Hus and I like a lot of the same music but also can have very different taste at times. It was my Hus's spiky punky hairdo that attracted him to me in the first place. The first time I saw him, I knew, hoped actually, that he would like the same music as me. I was really tired of meeting people that only liked country, which is very common in Vermont. And, WOW, he knew all of my favorite bands, that pretty much sealed it for me. Now we have that connection again, we even slow danced in our kitchen last week. The kids are having a ball dancing and singing too. E has choreographed entire dances for her brother. (Then criticizes him when he makes a mistake!) I am glad we have found something to do to help get us through this long winter.
Here are some of the songs we have downloaded. I know, we are all over the place with our choices.

This sounds like such fun! Music and dancing around being silly is amazingly fun and stress relieving, isn't it??
I am with you with every single choice...except for William Shatner. William Shatner?!
The boys like dancing in the kitchen, too.
You're the second one today dancing with hubby! I need to get me one of those again!
I must confess, I knew about 3 of your songs, but that's why there are so many! Dance to your own drummer kiddo!
Awesome thing to do. We've recently discovered SingStar, which is a PlayStation game where you sing - karaoke style. There's different music compilations out there, but we've found some from the 80s and 90s, and it's hilarious listening to your 7 year old singing old Kylie Minogue or John Travolta songs, while boogying along.
Sounds like you are doing more or less the same thing :)

I love (most of) those choices!
Hmmm....what else....organizing photos and video, mastering bread baking, doing a littlw knitting, watching some guilty pleasure TV, cleaning the basement, organizing the spring clothes to donate or move into the boys rooms (I know, wishful thinking in New England, but I'm in way southern New England).
What an awesome music list! I can tell we are about the same age. That was so time consuming for you to put all that together.
Thanks!
Oh forgot to answer the question... What am I doing? Making the biggest baby book anyone's ever seen... and dancing!
Happy dancing, and remember we are almost in March. :-)
Cute post! Hubby and I had similar taste in music from the get-go too, at times it seemed like it was the foundation of our early relationship (weird, I know). Very eclectic taste in music, we're a bit like that here. I'm a big fan of The The too.
We sometimes have a Friday night dance party with the kids. They love it, it is a great way to dance the winter away!
I lurve it all!
Unfortunately, it was 83 degrees yesterday for us, so not much of a winter, eh?
Fun! I'm playing Tennis and my husband is walking. My son is 18 so he doesn't really want to connect with us.
