Ha! We get those Pilliated Woodpeckers--the really big ones! And the redheaded ones, too. Our house is cedar sided and not only do they damage it with their pecking, it's horribly loud and annoying. I like your solution :-)
Apparently, they're looking for bugs that they know are there. My next door neighbor has one that goes to town on his chimney each morning. I pray the thing doesn't decide to pay me a visit.

We have lots of peckers. Really BIG peckers. Sounds like someone's breaking in the house when they're doing their thing. Are they tasty?

What are they doing when they peck? I'm not familiar with any kind of pecker except the human kind. And even then it's a stretch.

That is very funny! We actually have five varieties er species here not counting my son or my husband.
